You may or may not have gone to college or university, but the chances are that you’ll have a pretty good idea about what kind of courses are on offer. Of course, there are the basics like English and Math, but then there are the more creative ones you wouldn’t typically get to do at school, like Zoology or Meteorology. However, some universities and colleges offer some even crazier classes that you definitely wouldn’t expect to exist. NYU has some of the wildest ones. “Love Actually”

Yes, that’s right, NYU does have a class that is named after one of the greatest British romcoms of all time. As the name suggests, it is a class all about love. However, it is far more complex than you might first think, looking into the deep, psychological side of love and relationships, love in all of its forms and the many different kinds of love that there are.

The science of happiness

This is one of the most – if not the most – popular courses at NYU and people fight to take it every single year! In the world we live in today, it is a real struggle to be happy. Every day the media bombards us with more and more stories about hurt and disappointment. This course will teach you the science to being happy, and hopefully, if you pay attention in class, you’ll learn how you can control your happiness and be happy much more of the time!

Feminism and theatre

This theatre course is more than just drama; it’s drama all about women! Everything you study is to do with women; female playwrights, female actors and the study of feminist plays too, with a look into their key themes and what impact they have on society today. You’ll get to understand feminism and share your own views on it too, which is really useful for both boys and girls.

Blaxploitation

Ultimately this is a cinema studies course, but it focuses on black identity and black liberation throughout the ages and how this varies through different time periods of cinema. It doesn’t just look at how black people were and are exploited but also how some black people are exploiting – and rumor has it one of the key case studies for this is Beyonce! That rumor alone has made this course exceptionally popular.

Human sexuality

To be quite honest, this class doesn’t sound so much wild as it does an essential that should be taught as a compulsory subject during high school. Honestly, people have so many questions about the ever evolving topic that is human sexuality, and the idea of sexuality is a very fluid one that changes all of the time – so why not make sure you’re as clued up as you can be about it? The course looks further into sexuality than just the physicalities of it all though; it looks into research, case studies, psychological aspects and so on.
